Parish Social Ministry
Parish Social Ministry is the action that the faith community takes to live out the Gospel we proclaim and to grow in love with God and neighbor.
In support of this ministry throughout the Archdiocese of Dubuque, Catholic Charities has formed a Parish Social Ministry Network. The social needs in our communities are much more extensive than Catholic Charities could every fully respond to alone. Through the Parish Social Ministry Network, we strive to build local leaders, who are empowered to respond to their neighbors in need through community building, best practices, problem solving and resource sharing.
Through this network of parishes actively engaged in the social mission of the Church, we will promote the principles of Catholic Social Teaching to create more just social structures. We will assist parishes to discern the strengths, talents, resources, and needs of their communities and assist in mobilizing the parishes to meet those needs through direct services, community organizing, legislative advocacy, and global solidarity.
We can partner with your parish to:
- Consult: help your parish plan a new or expand an existing social justice initiative, develop or revive a Social Justice committee.
- Educate: learn about Catholic Social Teaching, help connect parishes to resources for topics as needed.
- Convene: call community groups together to respond to a local need. Assist in creating agendas and meeting structure.
- Mobilize: encourage parishioners to take action through legislative advocacy and other community event participation.
