Social Ministry Network
Parish Social Ministry is the action that the faith community takes to live out the Gospel we proclaim and to grow in love with God and neighbor.
In support of this ministry throughout the Archdiocese of Dubuque, Catholic Charities has formed a Social Ministry Network. The social needs in our communities are much more extensive than Catholic Charities could every fully respond to alone. Through the Social Ministry Network, we strive to build local leaders, who are empowered to respond to their neighbors in need through community building, best practices, problem solving and resource sharing.
Through this network of parishes actively engaged in the social mission of the Church, we will promote the principles of Catholic Social Teaching to create more just social structures. We will assist parishes to discern the strengths, talents, resources, and needs of their communities and assist in mobilizing the parishes to meet those needs through direct services, community organizing, legislative advocacy, and global solidarity.
As part of this network you can expect to find help through:
- Convening of like-minded groups
- Sample program models
- Sharing and developing best-practice models
- Meeting facilitation and support
The Forum has been designed to help facilitate networking between parish-based social ministry staff, parish volunteers, community volunteers and community agencies in the Archdiocese. We encourage best-practice sharing, problem solving, community building, and spiritual development to assess and address the social services needs in our communities.
